Our group of basketry enthusiasts, makers and collectors is based in New South Wales and meets regularly at Primrose Park Art and Craft Centre in Cremorne. By working alongside other makers we share skills and have fostered a community of creative activity and learning.

Join us the second Friday or first Sunday of each month between 10am-2:30pm (except January).

New members are welcome and your first visit is free.

Funding Skill Development

Our members are interested in, and use, a wide range of materials, including natural fibres and recycled and man-made materials. The resulting crafted artworks vary from functional vessels, sculptural forms and whimsical creations. Many of the more contemporary pieces are more sculptural shapes than traditional basket forms.  Often once our makers learn traditional basketry techniques, their creative juices take over and there is no limit to the wondrous shapes that can be produced.

Basketry NSW actively encourages members and non-members to explore and learn basketry skills and techniques by offering grants.

Funding can be used towards the cost of attending a course or event or towards travel and or accommodation for a course or event that fosters Basketry skills. Funding amounts may not cover the entire cost of the course or travel requirement applied for. Grants are generally between $250-$500 per application. Applicants can apply for only one funding grant per course or event and only once each calendar year. If you are not a Basketry NSW Member, a one-year membership will form part of a successful application.

Successful applicants must provide an article for the Basketry NSW Newsletter including photos and text and may be asked to share their learnings as a presentation to members.

Applications can be made by downloading the form here.
