Who we are
Our group of basketry enthusiasts, makers and collectors have met regularly at Primrose Park Art and Craft Centre in Cremorne since mid-2012, following several earlier years gathering in members’ homes. By working alongside other makers we share skills and have fostered a community of creative activity and learning.
Almost 50% of our members are ‘remote’ or outside the Sydney area. There are a number of groups gathering in other locations including Mudgee and the South Coast.
Our annual exhibition of Basketry held at Primrose Park Art & Craft Centre (PPACCI) is open to all members who wish to contribute.
The Basketry NSW Newsletter is published 6 times a year for members and is full of news about basketry events, workshops and exhibitions. We love to share what our members have seen and made, promote their exhibitions and workshops. Newsletter submissions can be made to basketrynswnewsletter@gmail.com
Members have access to a fabulous library of basketry books kept at Primrose Park Art & Craft Centre.
Every second year makers from around Australia participate in the National Basketry Gathering. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet other makers, share ideas and learn new skills. In 2027 the Gathering is in the ACT.
In 2024, Basketry NSW held its first Basketry Muster in Mudgee. This was a fabulous weekend of workshops and community. Look out for news about the next one in October 2026. Check the events page for more details.
Basketry NSW offers funding opportunities, available to members and non-members, for a variety of purposes that promote and enhance an interest in basketry. Amounts awarded vary, dependent on the activity, and reporting requirements include a presentation to members, an article for the newsletter etc. Non-members will receive an annual membership as part of their funding. The application form can be accessed here.
Basketry NSW is run by a small committee of volunteers. Members are encouraged to participate in meetings and be part of all aspects of the group.
