Winterfest
Ever been to Winterfest? We would love you to come and demonstrate your skills at the NSW Basketry stand. It is a fun weekend, come for the two days or just an hour or two.
Winterfest is held at the Hawkesbury Showground, a short walk from Clarendon station. It is a weekend to celebrate all things medieval, with enactments, tournaments, traditional arts and crafts, and so many wonderful characters dressed to impress in their medieval attire. Cane Weaving Over a Cork Base with Flora Friedmann
This workshop, of up to 10 people, will give makers the opportunity to work with flat cane. We will be weaving using the basic weave of ‘randing’ (over one, under one) but making a deliberate mistake to create a twill (diagonal) weave feature around the basket.
North Shore Craft Group Stall
Basketry NSW has been invited to participate as guest exhibitors in North Shore Craft Group Inc. Annual exhibition & sale in July at Thornleigh Community Centre.
A number of items will be sought for exhibition and sale at this event.

Basketry NSW Annual Exhibition
Basketry NSW holds an annual exhibition on the mezzanine level of Primrose Park Arts and Craft Centre in Cremorne. All members are encouraged to submit work. More details available soon.
Craft Week 2026
Sydney Craft Week is a 10-day event every October around Sydney. Sydney Craft Week celebrates creativity and the handmade in all forms. This festival allows the community to engage with craft, experience the benefits of making, and purchase local handmade work. All groups from PPACCI get involved in showcasing the work of members across the festival. Dates are yet to be confirmed.
Mudgee Muster
Mudgee will again host the Basketry NSW Regional Muster in October. Following all the fun that the Mudgee weavers had in 2024, we are looking forward to again hosting the weekend of weaving .
Held again in the Arts Precinct Workshop space, and will run with a similar format of 4 classes running each day. The two days of weaving will coincide with the opening weekend of Sculptures in the Garden which is always a highlight, and there may even be a surprise event or two.
There will be more info in the New Year, in the meantime pop the date in your diaries, and start planning your Mudgee adventure.

Bathurst Heritage Trades Trail
Basketry NSW will again be part of the Bathurst Heritage Trades Trail. This is an award-winning annual event which will be held at the heritage Bathurst Showground on 11-12 April 2026. The 2025 event attracted over 3,000 visitors who came to enjoy traditional crafts and trades, and Basketry NSW provided a very popular interactive stall. At our Friday meeting in March, we will be preparing some frames for mini melon baskets to use in April at the Trades Trail. Last year we couldn’t keep up with demand, so if you can’t make it to Bathurst, please come along and help us prepare.

Primrose Park Exhibition & Open Day
The month of June will see another group exhibition showcasing the works of all groups that meet at Primrose Park Art & Craft Centre. The theme for the exhibition is “Forces of Nature”.

Australian Design Centre Marketplace
Basketry NSW has been invited by the Australian Design Centre (ADC) to showcase our diverse work in their Saturday Marketplace. The ADC is in the heart of Sydney and supports the work of craftspeople and designers.

Information Session: Copyright and Intellectual Property in Basketry
At the regular Friday meeting in May, we will be joined by representatives from the Arts Law Centre. We have asked them to specifically respond to questions about intellectual property and copyright as these pertain to Basketry. There will be an opportunity to ask questions on the day.
The information session will start at 11am and run for an hour or so.

Ghana Basket Weaving Workshop
In this workshop you will learn how to weave a small basket using traditional Ghana basket weaving techniques. We use recycled Ghanaian fabric and recycled plastic from Ghana that has been woven into twine.
