Cane Weaving Over a Cork Base with Flora Friedmann

  • Primrose Park Art & Craft Centre Matora Lane off Young Street Cremorne, NSW, 2090 Australia (map)

This workshop, of up to 10 people, will give makers the opportunity to work with flat cane. We will be weaving using the basic weave of ‘randing’ (over one, under one) but making a deliberate mistake to create a twill (diagonal) weave feature around the basket.  The cork base and uprights will be pre-prepared by Flora to enable participants  time to complete their basket in one day.  Instructions for two different rims will be offered – a padded rim or a coiled rim (see image on main page). A worksheet with photos and full step by step instructions will be provided for makers to take home.

WHAT TO BRING

The following  tools will be most useful– e.g. secateurs, scissors, an awl or bodkin, a water spray bottle, pegs, waxed linen thread (if you have some) and a curved large eyed needle.

Please bring your lunch & possibly a small contribution towards morning tea.

Tea & coffee will be provided.
